Hello there! My name is Savannah and I am a competitive compound archer from a tiny little town in west Texas :)
I got started in archery through 4-H when I was ten. My dad was asked to be a coach and since there wasn't much else to do, my sister and I tagged along. My only goal then was to beat the boys at my club, and I LOVED doing that. I went to 4-H state and several other 4-H events and even though I absolutely loved it, I started getting bored. So I quit. I had hung up my bow, and I was done.
My mom talked to me every night for about a week and a half about just finishing out the year by going to State one more time. So after a while I finally said yes because I just wanted her to stop making a big deal about it.
I will always be grateful for my mom "bugging" me about this.
At 4-H state, we had a coach tell us that I should really consider getting a target bow and that I should look into USA archery and JOAD. We had no idea what he was talking about, but we looked into it and within a few months I had my first target bow in hand and I was going to give archery another shot. (pun totally intended)
I went to my first USA archery event, the Aggie Invitational, just to see if I could hang in there with the other girls. To our surprise, I won first place. This event kicked off my first year of really competitive archery.
Since then I have:
Earned a spot on the U.S. National Archery Team twice
Won Indoor, Outdoor, and Field Nationals
Won Vegas
Earned the silver medal in Ireland at the World Field Championships
Earned the silver medal with my team in Argentina at the Youth World Championships
Broke a world record with my team in Argentina at the Youth World Championships
God has blessed me with several years of traveling the country and world, making the best friends I've ever had, and having the opportunity to compete with the best archers in the world. Now, quitting is the furthest thing from my mind and I hope to be able to compete for many years to come.
