I started Taekwondo approximately four years ago, and since then it has been a major part of my life, and my successes. Becoming the Canadian National Champion for the Junior Division was the first stepping stone, on the journey to future, and greater competitions for me to experience. I am continually juggling training with maintaining my honour roll status at school and my part-time job. I complete different aspects of training every day, in order to prepare for these once in a lifetime opportunities. I recently won gold in my Junior Division at the Canadian National competition held earlier this May. This win capped off an extraordinary season for me, in which I had already earned silver at the Canada Open and bronze at the U.S. Open Taekwondo Championships in Las Vegas. This most recent win earns me the right to represent Canada in my division at the 2014 Pan Am Games (September) in Aguascalientes Mexico, the 2014 World Taekwondo Championships (October) also held in Mexico, as well as the 2014 Commonwealth Games (November) in Scotland. This is not just a milestone for me, but also for Canada's visible minority community, as I am the first junior girl of (West) Indian decent that has ever been chosen to represent Taekwondo Canada at these World competitions. Given this amazing opportunity, I am so thrilled to represent my country at these momentous events. Ultimately, I am looking to raise approximately $17,000 to cover the funds needed to facilitate my trip to all three international competitions. I hope that with all your support, I will be able to reach my dream, and make this experience an unforgettable one.
