My name is Jerome Cabanatan and I have been doing taekwondo for almost 30 years. I retired from the ring in
2011 and have since committed to coaching and instruction at Young Choung Taekwondo Academy for students of all levels
from grass-roots to elite world class athletes.
As an athlete I
was Canadian Champion multiple times and represented Canada at World
Championships (2005 & 2009), World Military Championships (2000),
Universiade (2005) and Commonwealth Championships (2006). I also won
international medals at US Open (2008, Gold) and Spanish Open (2008,
Silver) in my prime. However, the accomplishments that give me the most
pride are the performances of the athletes that come out of YCTKD, like 2015 National Team members Yvette Yong, Siddu Bhat and Jordan Stewart, who I will be coaching at the 2015 World Taekwondo Championships.
My dream is to develop the best taekwondo TEAM
in the world, generation after generation. I want the families of 44
Vaughan Road to continuously churn out the best champions, coaches and
instructors through their hard work, teamwork, perseverance and true FIGHTING SPIRIT!
