Biography

My name is Alexa Rahman, and I am just your average horse-obsessed sophomore with a few interesting twists. I am a native Saratogian and attend Saratoga Springs High School. I’m very involved in a variety of school programs, having to do with music and academics. I also immerse myself in everything to do with animals, and am fortunate to have my two horses boarded at Rolling Oaks Morgans, which is only ten minutes away from my house.

My passion for horses began at an age so young that I cannot remember, but I do know that I was a carousel fanatic before I could even walk. I also enjoyed my collection of horse stuffed animals, along with my growing utopian toy farm. I’m guessing I begged my parents and grandparents during these early years for a horse, since one would fit perfectly in our less-than- half-an-acre backyard. Then, on my fourth birthday, my nana gave me riding lessons, and never did anyone predict that this one decision would develop into this life-long passion and involvement with these beautiful animals.

I’ve been riding at Rolling Oaks Morgans for about ten years now, and have learned not only an immense amount about horses, but lessons that I will use in many aspects of my life. The first horse to get me into the ‘big’ show ring was Walnut Ridges Solid Gold (Zoe). My few walk/ trot years with her were, of course, an amazing learning experience. Actually, I was fortunate enough to return to Oklahoma with her in 2015, when she helped me win my first World Championship, and have the best day of my life. My trainers, Keith, Maggie, and Sue, have also taught me to have perseverance and patience with horses, which are also important qualities to utilize in life. These qualities proved to be useful in working with both of my horses as well. I got my first horse, EKL Assets Vision GCH (aka Baxter) for my eleventh birthday. These past few years with him have had their ups and downs, but we have come so far and he will always be my heart horse. My nana recently helped me buy my to-be equitation mount, Indian Creek Nathan Hale (Nate). Both of these horses have taught me so much as well, and I am so proud of what we have accomplished and am so excited for our future.

Aside from horses, I spend a lot of my time participating in musical activities. I play violin and am in Chamber Orchestra in my school…it is my favorite class. I also have a private teacher and participate in the NYSSMA solo festival every year. I also was recently accepted into the Saratoga Youth Symphony. One of my favorite things to participate in with the violin is the Saratoga High School Fiddle Club. We play gigs at many events, such as the Victorian Street Walk and Dance Flurry in Saratoga, and will be going to Ireland in April. A group of us jam every chance we get, whether it’s busking on Broadway in Saratoga or just in the orchestra room in school. Fiddle Club is extremely fun and I hope to be elected President my senior year of high school! I also sing, and am in my school’s elite choir - Choraliers. I’ve always loved singing, and even sang before I could talk…so they tell me!    Another large portion of my time is spent on academics. I have achieved high honor roll every year of my school career, and have worked extremely hard to achieve this. I am also in all Honors, Accelerated, and AP classes. My goal is to be a veterinarian, so I try very hard to do well in school.

I also participate in various community service activities. Rolling Oaks does Special Olympics and Camp Ability (camp for the blind), which are fun learning experiences for me as a helper and for those who participate. I often help little kids who are starting orchestra too by attending some of their concerts and helping their teacher. This is also extremely fun and the kids are adorable and great to work with!

Above and beyond all of this, I am so grateful for my mom and dad, and for my nana and papa. Without their unconditional love, support (both emotional and financial), and faith in me, I would not be the person I am today. They have helped make so many of my dreams come true, and have instilled in me how important it is to be a kind, caring, and hardworking individual. These values keep me grounded, and continually drive me to focus on my goals.
