Biography
A lifelong martial artist - my journey started when I was 9 years old when I stepped into the local Tae Kwon Do dojang. Unfortunately, dance, gymnastics, brownies and softball didn't hold my attention. But, Tae Kwon Do did. My childhood revolved around this and soccer. I quickly entered the competitive stream amassing medals at local, provincial, national and intercontinental tournaments. At 16, I received my black belt. At 21, I received my 2nd dan.
Sparring was always my favourite aspect of training and it wasn't until I was in university training with a mish mash of martial artists 3 times a week that I was introduced to Muay Thai by a guy with funny shorts and insanely strong kicks.
When I moved to Peterborough in the fall of 2010 for work I found a Muay Thai gym on my 3rd day in the city while walking home from work and the rest is history. I trained everyday, sensing that this was something I could become great at. Watching the National tournament 5 months after I started training I realized that competition at that level was within my grasp and increased my training, changed my diet and tailored strength and conditioning towards muay thai and K1 competition.
In November of 2011 I had my first fight. By 2013 I had worked my way up the ranks in Canada and became the National Champion winning my way onto Team Canada. In September of 2013 I flew with the coaches and team members of Team Canada to Brazil to compete at the World Championships where I won my first fight but got bumped in my second fight by the Russian fighter who was the returning champion. At the end of the tournament she retained her title of WAKO World Champion.
Since fighting at the worlds getting silver at the 2014 Nationals and silver at the North American Championships in May 2014.
I changed cities and gyms and found my home at the Ottawa Academy of Martial Arts training under Kru Jeff Harrison. OAMA is one of the best gyms in Canada with some of the best fighters in Canada having fought on Glory, Lion Fight, TKO MMA, UFC, Friday Night Fights and other events across North America and Thailand.
