Biography

ABOUT ATLANTIS CRICKET CLUB - NY

Atlantis Cricket Club - NY was formally established in New York in 1966 by a group of young cricket enthusiasts from the Caribbean. The club has enjoyed enormous success throughout the years, winning more than 25 championship titles and attracting a diverse group of players from around the cricketing playing globe, including Anguilla, Antigua, Australia, Bangladesh, Barbados, England, Grenada, Guyana, India, Jamaica, Pakistan, St. Vincent, and Trinidad & Tobago.

Atlantis is a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit and currently has two teams - Atlantis senior men’s squad; six of whom have or are currently on the USA National men’s squad; and an Atlantis women’s squad, with eight of the players having represented or are currently representing the USA on the National women’s team.

Throughout its existence, the organization's leadership has exemplified stability, a sense of purpose, exemplary conduct on and off the field and a great deal of camaraderie among its members. A little more than two decades ago Atlantis adopted the motto “Atlantis…More than just cricket!” and incorporated community service as part of its core mission. Its civic engagements include activities beyond the cricket boundary with Habitat for Humanity, an Annual Toys for Kids, Atlantis CAN Canned Food and Clothing Drives, and its Shevonne Mentis Educational Scholarship Fund, that benefits first-time college students.

Atlantis has been supporting women’s cricket and the development of the sport among women cricket enthusiasts, by sponsoring and supporting a women’s team in the Georgia Women Cricket Association Annual Women’s T20 Cricket Tournament, winning five GWCA championship titles in the past seven years. Atlantis firmly believes that women’s cricket can be the catalyst for catapulting the sport of cricket here in the United States, and as such is one of few clubs demonstrating a commitment to the growth and development of the sport among girls and women in the United States.

Over the years, Atlantis has also taken time out to recognize and honor those who have contributed so much to the sport of cricket. Among its Honorary Life Members are Clive Lloyd, Sir Andy Roberts, Alvin Kallicharran, Lance Gibbs, Roger Harper, Sir Curtly Ambrose, Lawrence Rowe, Basil Butcher, Snr, Joe Solomon, Joel "Big Bird" Garner, Clayton Lambert, Gus Logie, Adam Sanford, Michael Holding, Sir Charles Griffith, and former West Indies women’s Test player and assistant coach Stephanie Power.
