My Journey:
My athletic career began at NBS Gym in Raleigh, NC of 2007, where I focused on boxing. Boxing was my first passion. A year of training a NBS ultimately led me to Kick Boxing. It wasn’t until 2009 that I found my true love, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). Throughout the year in 2009 I began competing in Tough Man tournaments and MMA Cage Fights. Like my training, it took me a year or so to find my true love and in 2010 I competed in my first BJJ tournament. In May of 2011, I joined Team Edge MMA in Cary NC.
Through the years I have grown to love several of the different Martial Arts and enjoy studying each discipline, respectively. As my excitement grew for Mixed Martial Arts, I wanted to test my newly acquired skills against other like-minded athletes. This is what led me to compete in a few MMA fights. My competition in these fights would prove to be some of the best teaching moments in both my personal life and athletic journey. As I was walking to the cage for the last time on March 30th, 2012 I decided to shift my focus solely to the gentle art of BJJ. With my energy being directed to BJJ, I have set new goals for myself. The first being is to commit myself 100% to the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and earn my Black Belt. The black belt in BJJ is the highest possible rank and takes years to achieve. Finally, through competing around the World my number one goal is to be a world champion.
With the shift in my focus and new goals in mind, I went to work to realize my dreams. I found a great school and began training at Gracie Raleigh in August of 2012. There, I train under Brandon Garner. Brandon is a black belt in BJJ under the great Royce Gracie. This is my home for 4 nights a week. We train and learn techniques for a couple hours then roll for another hour or so. If I am not training at Gracie Raleigh you will find me improving my strength and conditioning. I also have a full-time job at C&A Equipment Services, where I install and service automotive equipment. So far my hard work is paying off! February 11th, 2013 I received my blue belt from Royce Gracie himself. On February 7th 2015 I officially received my purple belt. I am ready to continue this journey an further this art of BJJ.
I have competed in over 13 BJJ tournaments since 2010. My wish is to continue competing in other regions of NC and other states. By doing this, this will give me the opportunity to compete against some of the top competitors in this sport. This is my passion!
