Hey everyone! I am Haley Heffel and I have spent the last several years fueling my passion in freestyle wrestling. The sacrifices that I have made to pursue this passion have shown results as this is my third year that I have made the Canadian National Team. Coming up shortly, I will be wrestling in Cuba in the Pan Am Championships in May. Even though making the national team is beyond exciting, it is merely a sub goal; the 2020 Olympics are the main priority. Therefore, gaining as much international experience is what this opportunity is doing for me. Your donation will cover team fees and airfare to Cuba and any additional funds will go towards upcoming tournaments like the Canada Cup on Ontario.
I have made many sacrifices for this sport. Living in my hometown Westlock, Alberta, driving to and from Edmonton twice a week became too much for my mother. Therefore, for my grade 12 year, I decided moving independently to the city and leaving the small town behind was what was best. This gave me the opportunity to practice more, be in a more accommodating fitness centers, and it significantly lowered the cost of training. However, this has also built some challenges. By training so much and also being a full time student, work was deemed impossible. This has made a tight financial situation for my parents. Thus, these funds have to be raised in order for me to be able to participate in this tournament and training.
