Hello! My name is Jake Beaton, ParaPowerlifter. I am from North Bay Ontario. I've been active in sports my entire life, trying any sport I could get my self into. I've been power lifting for three years and this year in February 2018, I competed in the Canadian Nationals In Calgary Alberta. I was proud and thrilled to earn and set the first and second National Records in my division.
I was born in 1988 with Spina Bifida at the L4 S1 level of my spine. This left me unable to walk and affected everything in my system basically from my waist down. Like most kids with Spina Bif, it was complicated by hydrocephalus and was a long road of surgery, therapies, more surgery more therapies, but I always had sports to get me out of my mind and into my body, as broken as it seemed at times. The support of my friends, family, teammates and coaches, has helped me make it to where I am today, on my way to Bogota International Parapowerlifting Competition hoping to bring home a medal for Canada !, A country in which I am so proud to be a part of. And to my city of North Bay, that gave me so many opportunities to be the athlete I am today!
I am a graduate of North Bay's Canadore College's Welding Program and am presently enrolled in the Machinist Program. My hopes and dreams are to represent Canada in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020!
