We are asking for your support!!
This Junior pairs team is heading to the U.S. Figure Skating National Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina during the week of January 19th, 2015.
Kailey Matkin and Justin Highgate-Brutman began skating as individual skaters before coming together as a Novice pair team. Kailey started skating at the early age of 3 in Southgate Michigan. She has competed individually since she was 5 years old. Justin started his individual skating journey when he was 13 years old. He originally played hockey as a young boy before transitioning into a successful figure skater.
In 2012 Kailey and Justin, who both represent the St. Clair Shores Figure Skating Club, got together with international pairs figure skater turned coach Brooke Castile O'Keefe. The chemistry was extraordinary and the rest is history. Their very first Novice pairs competition was during the 2012 Midwestern Sectionals in Cleveland, Ohio after only working just a few months prior to competing. They ended up placing 10th and to them was most definitely a positive start. With a full year of training under their belt they returned to the 2013 Midwestern Sectionals in Lansing Michigan and placed 3rd overall. This qualified the duo for the 2014 U.S. Figure Skating National Championships in Boston, Massachusetts in January 2014 where they finished 6th overall.
Fast forward to the present where Kailey and Justin have moved up to Junior Pairs and have already secured a place at the 2015 U.S. Figure Skating National Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina in just a few weeks. They finished 4th overall back in November at the Midwestern Sectionals held in Geneva, Illinois. In August, Kailey and Justin headed out west to Ontario, California for the Golden West Figure Skating Competition where they placed 3rd overall in Junior Pairs.
They plan to continue working 30+ hours a week to improve every element of skating pairs and ultimately taking the final step toward the quest for representing the United States of America in the 2018 Olympics.
Thank you for your interest in these two wonderful, extremely talented and very determined skaters with a passion for the great sport of figure skating. Any contribution is so greatly appreciated. Kailey and Justin, along with our family, friends, coaching staff and supporters sincerely thank you.
