I remember the first day I set foot in a sailboat. I was 12 years old and after rigging the boat I looked up to the top of the mast amazed by how everything fit together and just how big the boat really was and it was just an echo. It felt weird at first and I was so nervous that I didn't even give myself the chance to learn, I let the fear take over. Barely passing my first level, I was relieved but disappointed for a reason that wasn't clear to me back then. I went back 6 months later and told myself that I needed to not just pass, but I needed to impress myself, and that's exactly what I did. I sailed as hard as I could and it paid off, I was told by the coach that my perspective had changed and I was finally on the right track, he told me that he wished more of his students were like me. Afterwards, I remember making a promise to him that I would work to be an amazing sailor, and that's when it really started for me. I started training to become a winner and to stand out, and even when I failed, I tried again and again. Now I have qualifications I dreamed of when I started my sailing career, qualifications that make me a proud and confident athlete. But now that I've reached my original goals and dreams, I can only make new ones and move forward. And that's exactly what I'm doing. CORK will be my gateway to the more competitive and intense side of sailing and will give me experience before the Ontario Sailing Combine in September of 2016. I may seem like a young girl with a crazy dream, but with your help, I can work my hardest to make those dreams a reality.
