Biography
Hey Guys!
My name is Alison and I am a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Brazilian Top Team. I've been an athlete my whole life. From hockey to soccer I have always strived to be the best I can be. About 7 years ago I found my true passion with BJJ and decided to dedicate my life to becoming a World Champion at all belt levels. In 2010 and 2011 my dreams came up short. I came second 2 years in a row at the IBJJF World Championships. Luckily with the help and support of my teammates and coaches we developed a new training plan incorporating both the mental and physical sides of the sport. In 2012 my dreams became a reality. My first year as purple belt I won my division and the absolute at the No-Gi Pan Ams, won the Abu Dhabi Pro Trials, and finally came 1st place the World Championships being the first Canadian to do so at my belt level or higher!! Last year in 2014 with the help of Make a Champ I was able to go down to California and place 1st at the World Championships as a Brown Belt!
I truly believe the most crucial part of being an elite athlete is having a supportive and amazing group of teammates and coaches. Family comes first to me and I am so fortunate to be able to have my dad and brother in my corner at all times. In addition Fabio Holanda and Ben Meireles are always there to share with me their expert opinions. I train with the most amazing group of people I have ever met. Living in a small town I love the sense of welcoming and community our club encompasses. Everyone knows everyone and we all have something we can share with each other.
Competitions are unfortunately very costly. This sport is growing more and more every year but getting sponsorship opportunities is still a big challenge. Being a full-time athlete and a recent graduate in Pyschology it can be hard at times to come up with the funds required to compete at the elite level. I'm doing this campaign in order to help me compete at the 2014 IBJJF World Championships in Long Beach California. By contributing to this trip you will help me to becoming one step closer to achieving my goals of being the 2015 black belt World Champion!!
My goal is to raise $1,500 to help cover my flight and hotel fees for the tournament. Every little bit helps and nothing is too small! Please feel free to share this page with your friends and family to help get the word out!!
