I created this campaign because:

The main goal this season is to progress my riding as much as possible and in turn become a podium contender at major competitions. This season I'll have the chance to prove this starting with a World Cup in Turkey this December. Following that my main focus will be on qualifying for the US and European Open events. Doing well at these major events would be a dream come true and be a catalyst for getting into even bigger events in the future.

With the help from this campaign I'm confident that I can turn these dreams and aspirations into reality!

I will be using the funds for:

These funds will go directly towards helping me prepare for and compete in the two biggest contest of my season - the European and US Open! Specifically, I'll use the money for a preseason training camp in Austria; training camps in Whistler; lift tickets; and the travel expenses to go to the European Open and US Open.

Biography

Andrew Mathews was born and raised in the Yellowknife, NWT. At a young age he took keen interest in almost every sport he tried. His favourites were hockey, indoor soccer, and of course, snowboarding! Andrew first strapped into a snowboard on a family vacation in Quebec. He was immediately hooked on the feeling of freedom, challenge and fun that snowboarding allows. Growing up in Yellowknife, however, made it challenging to fuel his new found passion—there isn’t a single ski-resort in the NWT. However, to overcome this obstacle, he built large drop in ramps, rode behind snowmobiles, and even transferred snow from the local skating rink when nature didn't provide it. After having the time of his life at the Arctic Winter Games in Fort McMurry in 2004, Andrew decided to try training with a professional coach. At the age of 16 he started training with RidersOnBoard—a club based out of Calgary. After a year and a half with Riders he joined the Whistler Valley Snowboard Club which he continues to ride with today. Despite humble and challenging beginnings, Andrew has emerged onto the Canadian snowboard scene as a talented athlete. His results on the competitive circuit have earned him the opportunity to represent Canada in 3 World Cup events, the FIS World Snowboard Championships, and 5 Star TTR events. He is currently ranked as one of the top 20 Slopestyle riders in Canada. In addition to following the contest circuit, Andrew has also been involved in and produced a variety of snowboard films with other competitive snowboarders. These films have been featured on many prominent websites such as Transworld Snowboarding, Snowboard Canada, Method Mag, NZ Snow, and Snowboarder Mag. Andrew has also been involved in a variety of commercial projects such as Sherpa Cinemas Into the Mind, Hudson Bay's Olympic Gear commercial, and Dick's Sporting Goods Catalogue Shoot. Due to Andrew’s wide variety of skills and achievements he has created a well-respected name in the snowboard industry and hopes to continue building it while representing the North as well as Canada.
