Since starting Athletics, it has been such a difficult journey but in the words of the famous Tommy Hilfiger “The road to success is not easy to navigate, but with hard work, drive and passion, it is possible to achieve...” In my determination to succeed I have gone from a sprinter who was ranked at 878 to 23rd in the UK for Decathlon.
Earlier this year (2014), I was very fortunate to work alongside Samuel L Jackson on a new movie where I worked as his picture and his stunt double, in order to raise enough money to focus on my goal of representing Great Britain in Rio, for the 2016 Olympics. However, I now need to focus on training, as Rio will be here before we know it. I have also started winter preparations, and even though 2016 may seem like a long way away, I really don’t have much time spare to train to reach my goal of representing Great Britain, by hopefully winning Gold at the 2016 Olympic games.
For over three years I have been training for the decathlon event, and have deferred my university position in order to commit and focus on succeeding as an elite track and field athlete. After exploring different events, I decided to pursue a future in becoming a decathlon athlete for Great Britain, and after just six months of training, my talent was quickly spotted and I was ranked within the top three athletes (for my event,) in the UK.
I went into the Olympic year of 2012 determined to qualify for the team but unfortunately, during my preparations for the 2012 Olympic games, I suffered from an injury, which rendered me unable to compete. This was a very tough time for me both physically and mentally; as a lack of financial support meant that I could not receive adequate medical attention that was required. This was a major setback, which cost me my chance of representing Great Britain and achieving my goal.
I am very passionate about my events and I possess a tremendous amount of natural ability, which has been highlighted and commented on by a few great mentors such as: Daley Thompson, Linford Christie, John Herbert, Tony Jarrett and Tessa Sanderson. In the famous words of Will Smith, “talent we have naturally, but skill is developed by hours and hours of betting on your craft.” I know that my natural talent will only take me so far, but my drive to succeed and the discipline that I have acquired allows me to practice and prepare. In order to be the best I need to train with the right equipment and with the right team.
My present standing in my first year as a senior, I am currently rank 23rd. I am determined to gain the top spot by preparing for the trials, the initial part of the journey towards Rio. Everything I have accomplished so far has been with the support and guidance of my family, friends and the previous support of the Tessa Sanderson Foundation and Academy.
I truly believe with the right team to establish a high performance strategy and an elite training plan, which can be made possible with sufficient financial backing, I will be able to firstly make the team and then win Gold representing Great Britain. I believe that winning will: increase participation in the Decathlon event, stimulate ambition and inspire young men and women to set and reach their own goals too.
This year I have competed in all of the British league events, and I wish to continue and maintain the same high level of commitment to the Newham and Essex Beagles Club. This page is to raise awareness of my profile and to hopefully be recognised a potential athlete for the 2016 Olympic games.
Thanks for taking the time to read, look forward to hearing about me in the future.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCOyg-KDIZQ
